Whether your child has been identified as having difficulty in reading or they are working towards the expected in Foundation Stage/Year One, we believe a love of learning is key. Help your child transition from Reception through to Year 1 and improve the chances of school success and preparing for the Year One Phonics Screening. Our Phonics and Early Reading focuses on building the foundations of literacy and numeracy by engaging children in a variety of structured, yet fun learning activities. This will help your child to:

PRE SCHOOL AND EARLY YEARS WORKSHOPS FOR PARENTS
We also specialise in Early Years reading and writing, offering phonic workshops to parents and children delivered by our fully qualified Teachers. Get your child ready for reading in a fun and, interactive way so you can help your child at home! We will focus on developing children's speaking and listening skills which lay the foundations for learning to reading and writing. Our sessions consist of, multi-sensory games and engaging activities which introduce children to phonics letters and sounds. These sessions are good to guide parents and give them an insight how reading is taught in schools.
The Tuition Mill provides tutoring for students in English between the ages of 5-17; from pre-school up to GCSE or above. We offer tuition in 11+ grammar school entrance, KS1 and KS2 SATS.
The programme caters for students who are virtual non readers through to those who have only minor difficulties.
Our Englsih programme is in line with the New National Curriculum and covers all aspects of English that students are expected to learn in school (where English is the first language). The programme is designed so that each student progresses at their own pace. A student can start anywhere within our programme of study at exactly the level suited to their current ability and knowledge.
English is split into three main categories: Reading, writing, speaking and listening.
At The Tuition Mill, we begin by assessing a student’s reading and comprehension abilities. By reading, we mean the process known as decoding- reading words by sight or using phonetic knowledge whereby the meaning is irrelevant. Comprehension assesses the ability to understand and analyse what is written in a piece or text passages.
To support English learning, we use a wide variety of techniques which cover the following aspects of the English language:

Lower Secondary English Tuition
Key Stage 3 is where fundamental English skills are developed in readiness for GCSE’s. Writing for a variety of purposes and across a range of contexts is introduced which requires an increasingly wide knowledge of vocabulary and grammar.
GCSE English Tuition
There have been a number of changes to the GCSE English specifications and assessment practices in recent years, but the content and topics studied have remained fairly static. Whether you are studying Foundation or Higher tier at school, you will develop: reading skills for both non-fiction and literary texts, writing skills for both imaginative and practical tasks as well as speaking and listening skills.
OUR COURSES:
Each session is 80 minutes in length and consists of written and computer based activities. Our sessions consist of English reading, comprehension, grammar, spelling and maths. As well as verbal feedback, we provide parents with a weekly development tracker to help monitor your child's performance.

The Tuition Mil Maths programme is the answer for your child’s maths challenges. A thorough understanding of basic maths is required before students can progress, so it’s important that the source of any difficulty is identified and addressed early.
Maths tutoring for Key Stage 1 and 2 allows primary school children to re-engage with the mathematic techniques taught in their lessons, and helps develop new problem solving skills and confidence. Ideal if your child can’t get motivated to study, feels uncomfortable in large class groups or needs things explained in a different way.

We also prepare children for their SATS and GCSEs by covering the relevant skills and knowledge they require to sit the exams confidently. We will revise all the key maths topics and complete past papers too.
Lower Secondary Mathematics
Our Key Stage 3 maths sessions develop those practical, real life skills required in everyday situations. Problem solving skills, whilst closely related to logical mathematics skills, are different in the way they are developed.
GCSE Maths Tuition
There have been a number of changes to the GCSE Maths specifications and assessment practices in recent years, but the content and topics studied have remained fairly static.
You will study: Number, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry and Statistics – both with and without a calculator.
Whether studying Foundation or Higher Tier you will find our GCSE sessions will provide the perfect opportunity for focussed revision. Each session will provide plenty of practice on a specific area of the curriculum.

We also offer tuition in all the sciences including Biology, Chemistry and physics taught by our fully qualified Science teacher.
